High wind & snow closing Chinook Pass Monday morning

YAKIMA, Wash. -- High wind and snow prompted crews with the Washington Department of Transportation to close Chinook Pass Monday morning.

Summer Derrey with DOT says the winter storm makes that stretch of SR 410 unsafe for drivers. The closure covers the area near milepost 74 at Morse Creek to Crystal Mountain Blvd. near milepost 57. It's not clear if Chinook Pass will close for the season.

Derrey says crews will reassess the pass after the storm to determine whether conditions improve enough to allow it to reopen. Chinook Pass will eventually close for the winter when deemed necessary by DOT.

Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass reopened Monday morning. It closed overnight when trees blown over from strong wind fell onto the interstate and blocked traffic. Snow is expected to accumulate throughout the day and drivers heading to Seattle for the Seahawks game are warned to leave as early as possible before the conditions deteriorate.
