Hyundai issues big recalls for Santa Fe, Sonata and Genesis
This week the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released two big recalls from Hyundai, one for the popular Santa Fe SUVs and another for the Genesis and Sonata Sedans.
Both recalls are expected to begin June 30, but owners may contact Hyundai customer service now with any questions at 1-855-671-3059. The recall number for the Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport is 163, and the number for Genesis and Sonata is 164.
Specific details for the recalls are pulled directly from the NHTSA website and are as follows:
2013-2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, Santa Fe Sport
Units Affected 437,400
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2013-2017 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the secondary hood latch actuating cable may corrode and bind, causing the secondary hood latch to remain in the unlatched position when the hood is closed.
If the hood is not securely closed or the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while driving, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the secondary latch cable, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin June 30, 2017. Owner's may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for the recall is 163.
2015-2016 Hyundai Sonata, Genesis
Units Affected 161,074
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2015-2016 Sonata and Genesis vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the warning light to indicate that the parking brake is applied may intermittently not illuminate in the dash due to corrosion in the switch.
If the parking brake indicator is not illuminated when the parking brake is applied, the driver may operate the vehicle with the parking brake partially engaged, affecting the brake performance and increasing the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the parking brake switch, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on June 30, 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 164.
