Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority to host charity drive on MLK Day
TRI-CITIES, Wash. – The Psi Nu Omega Graduate Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is celebrating their 3rd annual Martin Luther King Day of Service with a charity for the community.
The Project Hand-in-Hand Seasonal Wraps Drive is collecting new or gently used children and youth hats, gloves and new socks.
All of the items will be donated to the Tri-City Union Gospel Mission to help the women and children in the shelters.
Chapter leaders said their motto is “service to all mankind” and service to others is the best way to remember and honor Dr. King.
"Dr. King said ‘everybody can be great because anybody can serve,’ and that's absolutely true,” said Ashely Jenkins, vice president of Psi Nu Omega Graduate Chapter of AKA. “And that's been a part of Alpha Kappa Alpha's philosophy since we were founded. It keeps us going, it makes us who we are."
To donate goods, you can drop by the Richland Community Center on Martin Luther King Day, Monday Jan. 15, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
