Athletes participate in Power of Pasco Sprint Triathlon amid poor air quality
PASCO, Wash. -- Officials are encouraging people to stay inside, but some people in the Tri-Cities area had to be outside Saturday to participate in the Power of Pasco Sprint Triathlon. Athletes race on foot, in the water and on a bike.
Action News went out to the race to talk to participants about how the air quality affects their performance.
“The smoke is definitely hard on the eyes and a little bit on the lungs too- just breathing. It irritates my eyes more than anything," said athlete Laura Serreyn.
Other racers agreed and even one competitor wore a mask.
The triathlon took place at Chiawana Park in Pasco.
It's part four of the three rivers multi-sport series.
