Auditor's offices preparing for gay marriage licenses

TRI-CITIES, Wash. -- Our local county auditors are preparing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples starting December Sixth. And they do expect an initial rush on the paperwork.

The Benton and Franklin County Auditors' Offices expect to keep normal hours that day. King County will open its doors just after midnight but that's not the case here. Workers are still getting paperwork set up in preparation.

Franklin County Auditor, Matt Beat explains, "Basically the language changes, it comes down to changing the bride, groom on the marriage application to applicant one and two or other forms of non-gender specific language."

Benton County expects to use crowd-control barriers, in anticipation of long lines.
