Auto thefts and burlaries up for Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA - The KEPR Crime Tracker found auto thefts and burglaries are on the rise for Walla Walla. This comes after a large increase in calls for service after a three year decline.

We crunched the numbers. Compared to 2011, burglaries are up by over 10%. Stolen vehicles have spiked by almost 60%.

Officials say it's due to four-less officers commissioned since 2010. Police also report an increase in gang activity. It's also due to the Department of Corrections cutting the Community Corrections Officers staff. That makes it so there is little accountability on those who have been released.
