"Benton PUD's tree program is one of the many proactive actions we do to prevent outages which in return results in long term operational savings for Benton PUD," said Steve Hunter, Assistant General Manager and Director of Operations.
Benton PUD achieved the Tree Line USA award by meeting five program standards. Utilities must follow industry standards for quality tree care; provide annual worker training in best tree-care practices; sponsor a tree-planting and public education program; maintain a tree-based energy conservation program; and participate in an Arbor Day celebration.
Benton PUD's tree program was developed to ensure Benton PUD provided quality tree care practices and help customers plant the appropriate trees near utility lines. The benefits of the program have been healthier trees, less outages and long-term savings to Benton PUD. Trees can also help conserve energy and help clean the air.
The Tree Line USA Award was founded by The National Arbor Day Foundation to recognize utilities for national leadership in utility arboriculture and is sponsored in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the National Arbor Day Foundation.
