Booking video of inmate found dead at Benton County Jail released
BENTON COUNTY, Wash. - The family of an 18-year-old found dead in a Benton County jail cell asked jail officials to see video of their son, and KEPR worked to obtain this video from the jail.
Marc Anthony Moreno, 18, was found unconscious in his holding cell Friday morning and was pronounced dead a short time later by medics, say authorities.
KEPR Action News obtained booking video of Moreno on March 3rd -- eight days before his death.
Benton County police say because Moreno made suicidal threats, he was put in a padded single-person cell to prevent harm to himself. The video also shows officers putting Moreno in a restraint chair before being locked away.
An autopsy done by the Benton County coroner shows no signs of violence on the body and the cause of death will be determined once toxicology results come back, which could take up to eight weeks.
Moreno was initially at the Benton and Franklin Counties crisis response unit to be checked out for mental health issues after police say he was being aggressive and uncooperative.
According to Benton County Jail officials, Moreno was checked on more than 600 times by correction officers during his eight-day custody.
