Burglar suspects lead police on chase through Kennewick

---BENTON SHERIFF'S NEWS RELASE-- On August 18, 2012 at approximately 04:10 am Benton County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the 4200 block of West Metaline to assist the Kennewick Police Department (KPD) with a residential burglary, which just occurred. Kennewick Police Officers had determined the burglary suspect was on foot running from the area.

At approximately 04:32 am KPD Officers located two males hiding in a parked vehicle nearby. When they attempted to contact the two suspects they started the car (a maroon 1997 Honda) and fled. The KPD Officers were able to determine that one of the vehicle occupants was wanted by the Benton County Sheriff's Office in connection with the August 15th robbery of the Finley Truck Stop.

After the vehicle fled it was determined that the vehicle was stolen. A Benton County Sheriff's Deputy immediately located the vehicle and began a pursuit after almost being rammed by the suspects.

Sheriff's Deputies and KPD Officers pursued the vehicle through the area and attempted to stop it utilizing spike strips. The suspects attempted to ram several police vehicles and eventually struck a Kennewick Police vehicle before crashing into a building located at 115 West Canal. The driver, who fled on foot, was identified as 21 year old Tri-Cities resident Robert R. Paxton. A KPD police K9 was utilized and soon apprehended Paxton after he received a minor bite. The passenger in the vehicle, a 17 year old transient from Texas, was arrested without incident

The suspects' vehicle was impounded by Detectives from the Benton County Sheriff's Office for evidence processing. Detectives are still actively working the case at the time of this report. The 17 year old minor has been booked into the Benton Franklin Juvenile Detention Facility for Armed Robbery. Robert Paxton was also be booked in the Benton County Jail for Armed Robbery, Eluding a Police Vehicle and Possession of Stolen Property.
