RICHLAND, Wash. -- A canal broke in the Queensgate neighborhood of Richland Friday afternoon, causing flooding through the streets. Richland Police responded to the top of the hill on Bridle Drive after several resident phone calls.
Kennewick Irrigation District says a canal blockage caused the flood. Upon arrival, they starting digging a trench in the street to create a bypass to other side of the canal where it is still intact, decreasing the downhill water flow.
Residents say the amount of tumbleweeds stuck in the canal could have contributed to the blockage. Several driveways and yards were affected and some neighbors say they have a lot of damage control to do.
