Child likely dies from injuries after fall

Death Investigation

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The Walla Walla School District says 12 year-old Nylah White, a student at Pioneer Middle School, died over the weekend after receiving injuries from an accidental fall.

A school district report states that Nylah passed away, in her sleep, on Sunday.

The county coroner's office completed an autopsy recently and determined that Nylah died from blunt force trauma to her abdomen. The coroner has ruled the cause of death an accident.

The Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death.

A district statement says Pioneer Middle School has activated its Crisis Response team. Grief counselors and additional staff are at the school to provide support to students and staff, with additional support throughout the week as needed.

Walla Walla Public Schools will announce information about funeral services once available.

The statement from the district goes on to say, "Our hearts and prayers are with Nylah’s family and friends during this extremely difficult time."
