WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The City of Walla Walla is offering tips to prevent pipe damage this winter with a parody video.

The creative PSA lays out some simple ways to prevent residential water pipes from freezing over as temperatures drop in the southeastern Washington region. The video parodies Vanilla Ice's 1990 hit "Ice Ice Baby".

City leaders site the following ways to help keep those pipes running with water.

  • Locate your water shut-off
  • Open cupboard doors beneath sinks to keep pipes warm
  • Leave a small drip of water running from faucets to keep water circulating
  • Unscrew garden hoses
  • Insulate outdoor spigots
  • If Christmas gifts are shipped with styrofoam peanuts, use them as insulation for your water meter box
  • Keep your water meter box tightly closed
  • Blow out your irrigation system
  • If you have an unoccupied rental, shut off the main and drain water from the pipes

The city is acknowledging the Water Division, Wil, McKinley, Rodney and Marcus for their work in this video.
