Code enforcement notices rising in Pasco

PASCO, Wash. -- It may be time to get rid of those overgrown weeds. Code enforcement notices in Pasco are going way up. Over the past two years, correction notices spiked by almost 40 percent. Officials blame it on the city's growth.

The biggest complaints were for rental properties. Those accounted for over two thousand violations. Those incidents could be anything from a messy lawn to garbage removal or non-working smoke detectors.

"People just need to take care of their stuff better," said Pasco resident Tatum Colbray.

"I feel that everybody should keep their yards clean anyway. I mean, who wants to live next to someone who has a dirty yard?" said Pasco resident April Sparks.

Pasco is adding a new code enforcement officer next month.
