Crews at Hanford Site prepare to demolish two facilities
RICHLAND, Wash. - Crews at Hanford Site are preparing the demolition of the main production facility and the fan house that make up the Plutonium Finishing Plant (PFP) buildings; the other two are currently in demolition.
Reports said the work of demolition preparation is difficult and hazardous.
Wearing protective clothing and breathing filtered air is required as crews work to remove highly-contaminated portions within the ventilation system which kept the environment safe when the facility was used for plutonium production, according to Hanford authorities.
At this point, crews have removed or have prepared to remove nearly 70 percent of the more than 1 1/2 miles of ventilation duct at PFP.
