Crime tax pays off in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Wash. -- Franklin County continues to bring in more money to re-do its jail.

The so-called "crime tax" went into effect a year-and-a-half ago.

It raised the sales tax by three-tenths of a cent.

Franklin County expected to get about $137,000 a month from it, but it's consistently brining in $10,000 more than that.

Franklin County used some of that extra money for the Juvenile Justice center and anti-gang programs.

If the trend continues, we could see more improvements on fighting crime around Franklin County.

The money must go towards crime-enforcement.
