CRIME TRACKER: More tickets means fewer accidents

TRI-CITIES, Wash. - In the first few months of the year, 88 percent more tickets were written compared to the same time last year. 13 percent more DUI arrests were made. Troopers believe writing more tickets prevent accidents.

Wrecks blamed on speeding are down by two-thirds on our local interstates. Police say mother nature also had a helping hand.

"The milder winter we have had gives us time to be more proactive, but the one thing I am proud of is our guys haven't just sat back and relaxed, they have taken advantage of the nicer weather and been more proactive in the enforcement," said Lt. Michael Saunders.

WSP tells KEPR that they expect to have two new troopers as part of the new DUI squad.
