Despite heavy smoke in Goldendale, evacuees head home from Red Cross shelter

GOLDENDALE, Wash. -- The residents of Goldendale can seen the smoke burning over their homes from the Marker 28 Fire. On Monday, a thick and dark layer of smoke hovered over the mountains. It was visible across the horizon.

However, there is good news as officials at the Red Cross shelter in Goldendale infomed KIMA that they were able to close the shelter on Monday afternoon. After level 3 evacuations were lifted, those staying in the shelters were able to return to their homes. 15 people had been at the shelter since last Wednesday.
