Don't forget to cast your vote for this year's general election

Voters have until 8:00 p.m. November 7, to either drop off their ballot at one of the drop boxes or have your ballot postmarked.

TRI-CITIES, Wash. - Voters across Benton County are preparing to cast their vote for this year’s general election.

Benton County Auditor, Brenda Schilton, said “The important thing is if they have not received their ballot for some reason, it’s not too late. They can still get a ballot.”

For a ballot, Schilton said registered voters can go directly into one of the voting centers or contact the Benton County office immediately.

However, Schilton said it's common for voters to cast their vote and forget a very important step, include their signature.

She said, “The good news is, it doesn’t mean your vote is not going to count. Were required by law to contact each one of those voters and notify them that they failed to sign the ballot info and we give them instructions on how they can cure that.”

Local voter Karl Davis said “It’s important we do our duty and pay attention to who’s running and what they’re going to do if we elect them and vote for the people we think is going to do the right stuff.”

Schilton said, “These are the positions that really affect their day to day lives.”

Voters have until 8:00 p.m. November 7, to either drop off their ballot at one of the drop boxes or have your ballot postmarked.

Schilton recommends that at this point that you use a drop box, because tomorrow many of the U.S. postal service boxes stop picking up at around 2:00 p.m.

As of Monday, Action News noticed a disturbing trend, voter turnout continues to drop.

This year has already had the highest amount of registered voters but the lowest percentage of voters cast their ballot, so far at only 19%.

A number of officials will hope this goes up on election day.

Local voter, Colleen Schilperoot said “We need to continue to work to get all of our constituents to vote and just keep working together to make it a better community.”
