Fatal crash kills Quincy man, engulfs semi truck south of Othello
NEAR OTHELLO, Wash. —
A Quincy man is dead in a crash about five miles south of Othello that resulted in his semi-truck going up in flames.
According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the incident happened at 1:57 p.m. State Route 17 at milepost 23.
WSP says Miguel Penado, 58, was traveling northbound when he exited the roadway to the west, losing the trailer.
The semi continued parallel to the road, striking a fence and a power pole.
It came to rest in a yard. That’s where the semi ignited and became fully engulfed against a pine tree about 50 feet off the roadway.
Penado died in the crash. His kin have been notified.
WSP is investigating the cause of the crash. They say neither drugs or alcohol were involved.
