Fire breaks out in Benton City

BENTON CITY - A fire broke out Thursday afternoon on North River Road. It was burning not far from where a wildfire burned Wednesday.

A rapid response from the volunteer firefighters in Benton City helped prevent the brush fire from getting out of control.

The call came in around 5pm Thursday. A lot of smoke was seen billowing on North River Road. It was in a rural area with homes nearby. It took about an hour for the firefighters to get a handle on the blaze. One homeowner is certainly grateful for the quick response. The flames were just feet from her family's property.

"First it was small, and then it went into three sectional fires and it was just big, black smoke. So it looked like a big, black, tornado," said Benton City resident Iva Free.

Investigators tell us they're still looking into the cause of the fire.
