Action News learned it's a mixed trend. As of April, we had 18,000 people getting food stamps. That's up by 70% since 2008.
However, it's slightly down the historical peak in August of last year.
Officials tell us a decline from August doesn't mean our economy is getting betterit's still too early to tell.
"We would hope that trend would continue, but until we get through our busy months, we're not sure that it will continue," said Kennewick CSO Administrator Norman Moorex.
Officials also tell us five million dollars is funneled toward local food stamps every month.
