JROTC program coming to Kennewick High

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Students at Kennewick High School will be getting a little more discipline next school year. The district says an Air Force junior ROTC program will be implemented.

Students who sign up for the program will look and act like theTri-City Young Marines. The program is open to all levels and all the equipment, text books, and materials will be paid for by the Air Force. The district will pay 25% of two retired military personnel, who will serve as the instructors.

"Like some kids do in math, like some kids do in basketball, it's another opportunity to have an adult that can mentor them and the more people we have in the building to do that, the more kids we're going to reach," said Kennewick High school Principal Van Cummings.

Staff say students will be able to participate in formation and rifle training and have a chance to compete against other programs in the region.
