Kadlec invites you to its birthday party

KADLEC REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER NEWS RELEASE -- Richland, Wash. - In 1944, Kadlec opened its doors to care for the Hanford area workers and their families. At the time, Richland Village had a population of 918 people. By March 1945, that number had grown to 15,401 continuing to increase to a peak of 50,000 as people came to work at Hanford. In the 1950's, the United States government turned over ownership of the hospital to the Methodist Church renaming it to Kadlec Methodist Hospital. In 1969, ownership turned over to a not-for-profit organization making Kadlec the only hospital in the state of Washington and only one of few in the country that started as a government medical facility then turning back over to its citizens. In 1971, the new hospital was constructed in its current location and has continued to grow right here in Richland expanding the number of inpatient beds and outpatient services to care for the patients in the surrounding area.

Today, Kadlec is thriving with a regional medical center, specialty and primary clinics, an urgent care, an Outpatient Imaging Center with advanced breast care, an outpatient health and wellness facility and a freestanding emergency department. Kadlec remains the only hospital in the region capable of the full spectrum of cardiac care including open heart surgery and has the region's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to care for our tiniest patients. Kadlec boasts a medical staff of over 500 physicians and employs over 2,500 people - the third largest employer in the area.

Looking ahead, Kadlec continues to grow to meet the needs of the patients in this community and beyond because of its excellent staff and the trust our patients and community put in Kadlec to provide care to them and their families. Through the recent affiliation with the highly respected Providence Health and Services, Kadlec plans to continue its patient-focused mission of providing the community with the highest level of care possible.

To thank the staff and community for their continued support, Kadlec invites everyone to celebrate its 70th birthday on Thursday, July 17 from 5-8 p.m. in John Dam Plaza . There will be snacks, giveaways and an opportunity for patients and staff to share their Kadlec story. To learn more about how Kadlec has been changing lives for 70 years, visit
