Kennewick man arrested for stealing 70+ DVDs from library

KENNEWICK POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE -- On March 14th, 2014 Kennewick Police responded to a theft in progress at the Mid-Columbia Library Keewaydin Branch. After a brief investigation Jason Durston was arrested for attempting to steal 11 DVD movies from the library. Durston was booked into the Benton County Jail on suspicion of Theft in the 3rd Degree.

During the course of the investigation it was determined that Durston was also a suspect in a theft that occurred on February 13th, 2014 where he had checked out 33 items using a stolen library card at the other Mid-Columbia Library location. That same day he went to the Keewaydin branch library and checked out 67 more items using the same stolen card. The items were not returned to the library.

On March 15th, 2014 a search warrant was served at Durston's residence and 74 DVD movies and two books belonging to the Mid-Columbia Library were recovered. The estimated value of the items recovered was approximately $1,500.00.

Felony theft charges are now being reviewed by the Benton County Prosecutor's Office.
