Kennewick man charged with death of pedestrian

BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- A Kennewick man is now facing vehicular homicide charges for the death of a pedestrian back in April.

The Benton County Prosecutor filed vehicular homicide charges for the death of Nina Howard, 52, who was not in a crosswalk while crossing the street at West 27th.

An investigation from Kennewick Police determined Michael Johnson, 46, was likely going 72mph in a 40mph zone when he hit Howard. She died at the scene. Johnson's son told police he had been racing his father.

While Howard was not in a crosswalk, Kennewick Police say she would have had time to get out of the way if Johnson had been doing the speed limit.
