Kennewick opens 1st public community garden

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Some good news for all you green thumbs out there, Kennewick just opened their first public community garden.

Located off Newport and 10th Avenue, the Jay Perry Community garden allows residents to grow fresh produce. The city also offers mentoring from WSU gardeners. Folks we talked to say it is an invaluable educational tool.

"Gives them a good idea for botany, even to have them help, garden, grow things to see them plant something and then grow it, it's a good thing for them."

Officials tell us that it took over one thousand man hours to complete the garden. A cost of four thousand to the city.
