Kennewick police find car stripped of seats and working parts, arrest five
KENNEWICK, Wash. - Five people are arrested after police found a car that was stripped of seats and more usable parts.
Police located a white Mitsubishi Eclipse parked in the 4400 block of W. 7th Avenue on suspicious vehicle reports, Thursday around 6:30 a.m.
Arriving officers noticed the car's interior was stripped of working parts. They discovered this same car had been reported stolen August 7, from the 8600 block of West Clearwater.
Upon investigation, police noticed the car was leaking a lot of oil, leaving a trail that ended at 723 S. Volland Street, according to police reports.
Police said the car looked to have been pushed from this address, where they located a second stolen vehicle: a 1987 Toyota Pickup that was reported stolen August 23.
Detectives searched the house at this address and found parts from the stolen Mitsubishi.
Police arrested James Whitney, 27, for auto theft and trafficking stolen property, reports said.
Kennewick police also arrested four others: two for meth possession and two for previous arrest warrants.
The Benton County Prosecutor is reviewing this case.
