Local women to raise their glasses in the fight against human sex trafficking
RICHLAND, Wash. -- Ladies, get ready to raise your glasses and toast to the fight against human sex trafficking.
300 women are sold as sex slaves every night in the Yakima/Tri-Cities region, and a local woman is looking to do something about it.
Next Thursday, July 6th she's hosting an event. Women will gather at the Uptown Theatre in Richland for a night of wine, shopping, makeovers, manicures and fun with friends.
100 percent of the proceeds benefit Rescue Freedom, a Washington-based organization restoring the lives of people enslaved in human trafficking.
"Every life matters and there are women and children who wake up every morning in slavery,” said Laura Esquivel, who’s been organizing the event. “We’re not fueled by that tragedy, but we're fueled by the hope that we can possibly bring by just saying ‘I can do something’."
The event runs from 6 p.m. -10 p.m. and tickets are only $25. You can purchase tickets here on eventbrite.com.
