New trail coming to Badger Mountain

BENTON COUNTY, Wash. -- A new hiking trail is being carved into Badger Mountain, thanks to a grant from REI.

"Friends of Badger Mountain" is heading up the project. A tractor will do much of the digging and brush removal. Large rocks and dirt will be moved mostly by hand.

Trail master Jim Langdon says this project is the last for this area.

"Well, it's going to be a great accomplishment to get this one done. I've been working on it, like I said, we had a paperwork snafu, so a couple years now. It's going to be quite rewarding to have this done. I can sit back with my feet up for a while," he said.

The group hopes to open the trail by the end of April. It depends on the number of volunteers that help out. If you'd like to volunteer your time, you can contact them here.
