Pendleton National Guard facility receiving solar energy grant

PENDLETON, Ore. -- The Oregon National Guard is receiving more than $250,000 from Pacific Power to install a solar array capable of generating 150 kilowatts of electricity at its Pendleton airfield services center.

It's one of 15 renewable energy projects receiving grants from Pacific Power this year.

The company says the new solar system will help the Guard offset the electricity its facility uses.

The grant is funded by Pacific Power's Blue Sky program, which gives customers the option to pay an extra monthly fee to contribute to renewable energy development in the Northwest. In all, the company will distribute nearly $2 million in grants from Blue Sky in 2014.
