Pipe bomb detonated in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- If you live in Kennewick and heard a loud explosion early Wednesday, police say they were detonating what appeared to be a pipe bomb.

Police received a call from an East Kennewick man around 10 p.m. Tuesday. He was cleaning up belongings from a family member that had recently died.

The man came across a box with what appeared to be a homemade pipe bomb.

The bomb squad was called out. They detonated the device in a Kennewick field between 10th Avenue and Fairway Drive.

There were no injuries, and it was successfully detonated, but police say a very loud explosion could be heard throughout town.
