Police arrest suspect for pistol-whipping, threatening to kill man inside home
PASCO, Wash. - Officers have arrested a man after he allegedly beat and threatened to kill a victim with a pistol.
Pasco Police Department (PPD) investigated a report made around 11:12 p.m., April 13 from a man who said he was pistol-whipped in a house located on the 1000-block of S 5th Avenue. He said the suspect also aimed the pistol at his face and threatened to kill him according to reports.
When police arrived they found the victim with injuries on his head and witnessed the suspect leaving the house in a car.
PPD officers stopped and identified the suspect as Rafael Alvarez-Meraz, 37, of Pasco around 12:44 a.m.
Reports said officers were unable to locate a pistol on the suspect or in the suspect's car and served a search warrant for the house where the incident occurred.
Benton County Sheriffs Office sent a SWAT member and Street Crimes Unit to help in the search. Authorities cleared the residents, including children, out of the house before the search was conducted, police said.
A Beretta 9 MM semiautomatic pistol was found loaded inside the home with the safety off. Police held onto the pistol for evidence.
Police arrested and detained Alvarez-Meraz in Franklin County Jail. He's also charged with possession after police found narcotics that tested positively for cocaine, according to reports.
Authorities are investigating the alleged assault.
