Police fire shots at suspects; detain three
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Police say an officer fired two shots at a suspect's vehicle during a disturbance before detaining three people on Tuesday evening.
Police say they were dispatched to the area of North Cleveland and Canal for a disturbance involving guns.
Officers say they arrived as the suspect's vehicle was seen speeding from the area.
Kennewick Police Department says the vehicle drove directly toward an officer, Drew Sneyd, who had just exited his vehicle.
Sneyd fired two rounds from his patrol rifle at the suspect's vehicle.
Police say the suspect's vehicle continued to speed from the scene before crashing at the intersection of Canal and Perry.
KPD officers detained three people in the vehicle.
[UPDATE, December 13] Police have identified the driver in this incident as 35-year-old Joe Castaneda Jr. of Richland. He is in Benton County Jail for four counts of firearm possession while police investigate.
Officers say no one was injured during the incident.
Reports said Sneyd is on paid leave during the investigation. He has worked with KPD for 15 years.
