Current proposals have the sheriff's office cutting more than a million dollars. At the same time, five other departments are shaving off a combined total of just over $1,700.
In fairness, many of the other departments like the Assessor's office have much smaller budgets--- so the cutbacks for those departments are much less than the sheriff's office.
"Each of the elected officials and the department managers did analyze the budget and they provided the cuts to the commissioners they felt they could do without affecting services to the county," said Benton County Finance Manager Keith Mercer.
The budget could be finalized after December 18th.
