Richland coffee shop recycles like no other

WA DEPT. OF ECOLOGY NEWS RELEASE-- Barracuda coffee proprietors Jake and Michelle Shupe will be honored today at 2 p.m. with an environmental excellence award from the Washington Department of Ecology for their sustainable business practices.

The Richland couple is being recognized for sorting and recycling more than 1,000 pounds of waste products each month, reducing energy consumption and even making used coffee grounds available to their customers for use in their home gardens.

They've gone from filling two or three 55-gallon garbage cans with waste a day to less than that per week.

The award recognizes the outstanding environmental stewardship of Washington citizens and businesses.
