Six people die from flu in Tri-Cities area
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Health officials report they have confirmed six deaths in the Mid-Columbia area from the flu.
The Benton-Franklin Health District reports the deaths have occurred in adults between the ages of 40-90 and date back to December.
Most recently, an elderly man in his 90's died in Benton County.
On Thursday, the Health District learned of a sixth death. A woman in her 80's from Benton County.
Health leaders do not know if the victims had received a flu shot.
Here is a break-down of the flu deaths in our area in recent years:
2014: One flu death
2015: Six flu deaths
2016: Two flu deaths
2017: One flu death (in December and is included in our count of six for this flu season).
2018: Five flu deaths
According to the Washington State Department of Health, there have been 46 confirmed deaths from the flu this season.
