State Board of Education encouraging schools to change Native American Mascots

WASHINGTON -- If you attend Kamiakin Braves games, you might not be seeing their trademark logo anymore. That's because the state board of education is pushing schools to change their Native American mascots

Schools across Washington will no longer be allowed to have Warriors, Braves, and Redskins as their mascots. This is the second time in the last decade that the board has called on schools the make the change. Kamiakin students, fans and grads are hoping the district doesn't change the rules.

Krystina, Kamiakin Grad says, It's in our national anthem. That's one thing that pumps up the football games, ya know? It's our history and it's a part of us."

32 schools in Washington have Native American mascots.
