Teal the Bridge lights up to raise ovarian cancer awareness
KENNEWICK, Wash. - As we head into September, teal lights will illuminate the cable bridge to raise awareness for ovarian cancer.
The color teal is known to symbolize the fight against ovarian cancer. The Tri-Cities Cancer Center celebrates and remembers those impacted by the disease with their Teal the Town campaign. Its a month long effort to educate people on the disease.
Anyone interested in joining the campaign can visit the center to pick up a teal ribbon to tie onto a local business or home.
Foundation Director Michael Novakovich says it's important for women to know their body and check on any changes in order to prevent long term complications.
Novakovich says if ovarian cancer is found early, the five year survival rate is over 90 percent.
To celebrate those who have battled ovarian cancer, there's a social gathering at the Clover Island Inn restaurant Thursday from 7:00-9:00 P.M.
