Therapy dogs are a bookworm's best friend at Jason Lee Elementary
RICHLAND, Wash. -- Dogs may be man's best friend, but at Jason Lee Elementary in Richland, they're known as a student’s reading buddy.
Scout and Jack are therapy dogs that visit the school library every Friday.
The dogs are calm, helping the students focus and will listen to stories for hours.
Teacher Liesl Batdorf who helped organize the program says it's an incentive for students to get their work done during the week.
“I send out an invite every week to our teachers,” Batdorf explained. “They get to choose a student based on earning the opportunity with good class behavior or needing to improve their reading skills.”
Teachers say they plan to continue the program in the summer.
