Tri-Cities celebrates Pride Week with festival
TRI, CITIES, Wash. – Love, acceptance, joy, and bravery--those are some of the words people used to describe the Tri-Cities Pride Festival today.
The festival in downtown Pasco today was called "Glowing with Pride."
Event leaders said the LGBTQ festival is a way to share love and extend friendship to others.
The festival included belly dancers, vendors, bouncy houses, and a drag show. It was the grand finale of Pride Week.
"I think in a community where we're very conservative, there's definitely some challenges when someone comes out in this area,” said Jay Chavez, Tri-Cities Pride executive director. “I think it's important to get to know one another, to normalize it and to make it known that we're all human even if we're a little different."
Chavez invites everyone to come next year to learn more about pride and make new friends.
