Two arrested after cashing stolen checks in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Two Kennewick men were arrested Tuesday after they cashed checks that had been stolen during a residential burglary last year.

According to the Kennewick Police Department, Derek Idler and Christian VanHorn, both 18, tried to cash the checks at banks around Kennewick several times since the beginning of March.

The checks belonged to a Kennewick woman. Police say she was unaware her home had been burglarized.

On Monday, Idler was not allowed to cash one of the checks at the woman's bank. The same day, VanHorn did cash one at a different bank.

KPD says officers found VanHorn's vehicle Tuesday, stopped it, and arrested the two men.

Idler has been held on an unrelated warrant for theft and resisting arrest, and he is being investigated for residential burglary. VanHorn was released while Benton County prosecutors consider charging the two men with forgery.
