Two hospitalized after Umatilla County crash

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into Thursday afternoon's two vehicle serious injury traffic crash that occurred on Highway 11 near Athena in Umatilla County.

According to Lieutenant Mike Turner, on March 13, 2014 at approximately 12:53 p.m., a 1996 Honda Civic driven by GREGORY MURRAY, age 44, from Milton-Freewater, was southbound on Highway 11 near milepost 15 passing several vehicles when it encountered a northbound 1996 Toyota Camry driven by JIM RASMUSSEN, age 77, from Pendleton. Both drivers took evasive action but collided nearly head-on in the vicinity of the northbound lanes and shoulder.

MURRAY and an adult female passenger received minor injuries not requiring hospital transport.

JIM RASMUSSEN and passenger DONNA RASMUSSEN, age 74, received serious but non-life threatening injuries. They were transported by ambulance to St. Anthony Hospital.

OSP was assisted at the scene by Umatilla County Sheriff's Office, Pendleton Fire & Ambulance, Athena Police Department, and ODOT. Traffic was reduced to one lane for about an hour during incident response and scene clearance.
