Wa-Hi student saves choking teacher, performs the Heimlich

WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- -- A brave Walla Walla high school student stepped up to the plate in the middle of class to save her teacher's life.

Thursday morning, Wa-Hi senior Mariam Hart saw Julie Laufenburg, her fine arts teacher, choking during a lesson.

Hart jumped in and started performing the Heimlich on Laufenburg- ultimately saving her life.

Wa-Hi said Hart is a Cadet Major in the school's JROTC program, is CPR certified through the Red Cross and has had extensive first aid training.

Laufenburg said she wasn't surprised Hart came to the rescue.
