Police urge drivers to plan ahead for St. Patrick's Day weekend
RICHLAND, Wash. -This weekend many Tri-City locals will be wearing green, eating green and some drinking green at local bars around town.
While many people are partying officers will be busy looking for drivers under the influence.
“We encourage people to celebrate there's nothing wrong with going out with friends and family.”
“The issue is drinking and driving, so if you're going to drink just don't drive,” said Hendrickson.
Sergeant Drew Hendrickson said it's important to plan ahead and make a sober decision before you make a bad one.
He said “we expect some extra officers on the road between all the agencies and state patrol so they’re going to be out there and if you make a bad decision it’s going to catch up to you.”
He also adds there’s no excuses to not make arrangements.
“We have a lot of taxi services that pick up all around the Tri-Cities and drop off everywhere, there’s plenty of options out there.”
Drivers can download mobile apps, such as Safer Ride and with just one click away, the application will allow you to pin point your exact location as well as provide you with a list of contacts you can reach, to get home safely.
Penalties for driving under influence include fines, license suspension, along with possible jail time and that does not include all the risks.
Police remind drivers to not drink and drive in order to keep the luck of the Irish on their side.
