West Richland ranked as one of Washington's safest cities

TRI-CITIES, Wash. -- West Richland is one of the safest cities in Washington state, according to a new ranking published by real estate blog Movoto.

Movoto ranked 74 cities with populations larger than 10,000 on murder, violent crime, property crime and total crime, then combined those ratings into an overall score.

West Richland had the sixth lowest overall score in the state. Its ranking was boosted by its low rate of total crimes and by the fact that it had no murders in 2012.

Richland also scored well, ranking 19th in the state. Walla Walla ranked 38th out of 74 cities, while Pasco ranked 41st and Kennewick was 44th.

The ranking was based on 2012 crime statistics. Cities that do not report crime data were not included.
