Youth group recovers after van crashes near Hermiston
HERMISTON, Ore. - A youth group traveling from Lewsiton, ID has recovered from injuries in a car accident near Hermiston.
Hospital leaders say some youth group members and their leader were injured, Thursday, after their van swerved and lost control, crashing on its side at the I-82 and I-84 interchange.
The Ford Econoline skidded from the north shoulder of the exit and went down a steep embankment where it rolled, according to reports. One person inside was ejected and responders said two others were partially ejected.
Medics took nine out of the 11 youth and the leader, who was driving the van, to the ER at Good Shepherd Health Care System, according to a news release form the hospital.
Those involved received varying degrees of injuries, according to medics.
Those in the group who were not injured waited with their group while the hospital provided food and beverages.
"Under the circumstances, we wanted to make sure that the youth, their leaders, and families had a private space to decompress, interact with each other, and where we could provide for their other basic needs," said GSHCS President & CEO, Dennis Burke.
GSHCS says the youth and their leader have all been treated and were released from the hospital.
