Gov. Inslee signs bill that targets abandoned boats

TRI-CITIES, Wash. -- There are new laws in effect that would go a long way towards preventing abandoned boats like one that was ditched in the Columbia River last summer.

The state is suing the owner of that boat. But new laws are now in place that would stop the sale of a boat that wasn't seaworthy. That was the case of the one here locally.

The law would also require moorage insurance. The goal of the bill is to take the burden off taxpayers who end up footing the bill for cleanup of these boats.
