Kennewick to construct downtown ice skating rink for holidays

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Just in time for the holidays, Kennewick is installing a temporary ice-skating rink downtown.

Sheets of synthetic ice will be laid in the parking lot of Centennial Flag Plaza. It's at the corner of Kennewick and Benton Avenues. The Historic Downtown Kennewick partnership is fronting the $34,000 cost, but hopes to get some back through sponsor-ships. "We wanted to make sure, you know, we were looking at the costs of renting for the weekend or something like that, and for what we paid for it, it was more feasible to purchase it and have it for years to come and have it set up in the downtown," says the Partnership Executive Director Timothy Dalton. The rink will be open next weekend and the weekend before Christmas.
It will be free to the public and ice skates will be available to rent. For skating sessions info, click here.
