Local pet store owner on dog food diet

TRI-CITIES, Wash. -- The owner of two local pet shops in the Tri-Cities is receiving national attention. Dorothy Hunter is eating nothing but dog and cat food for a month.

And no, this isn't the latest Hollywood diet. Hunter owns Paw's Natural Pet Emporium in Richland and Kennewick. She sells animal products that she would only eat herself.

Hunter says her animal food diet is to raise awareness about what you feed yourself, your kids, and your pets.

"All of the foods are pretty bland because they lack salt and they lack sugar. I'm missing a little bit of carbs so I have a lot of the treats to get my carbs. I've lost 2.5 pounds and that's pretty much stabilized but I feel great and my energy levels up. I'm not chasing cars or anything like that," said Paw's Natural Pet Emporium owner, Dorothy Hunter.

She's halfway through her challenge and says she has no digestion problems. Her favorite is a pumpkin flavored dog treat. But she's really looking forward to eating grilled salmon topped with pineapple when her month is up.
