The new Sacajawea will be adjacent to the old building. When the new building is ready to go, students from Marcus Whitman will use the old Sacajawea while a new Whitman is built.
Residents have worried about potential traffic problems that could come with operating two school on the same property. We spoke with the principal.
Reporter: "This particular school has been the subject of a lot of controversy. How are you guys going to address that now that you're moving forward?"
"Good question. We will have an additional school here. We'll be working together with district leadership to determine staggered start times, some of those areas still need to be worked out, but I'm very confident that we'll be able to do that," said Sacajawea Principal Jim Bruce.
The school should be ready by the fall of next year. It's one of nine projects funded by the $98 million bond.
